A total of 1300 employees, within a wide range of disciplines, work at ConocoPhillips in Tananger. The daily operation of the four fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area is coordinated and supported from the Tananger office, and some operational functions run around the clock.
High Activity
At the maritime logistics center they follow the traffic to and from the Greater Ekofisk Area continuously. The activity level is high offshore. It is important that the appropriate personnel are in the right place with the right tools and equipment at any time. It requires extensive planning and monitoring.
'Timing'
"We’ve become good at timing over the years," says base logistics director Jan Bjerga, who has 38 years experience at the Tananger base. During the year 400,000 tons of cargo is shipped offshore.
"We have four regular supply boats in traffic to and from the field plus additional leased vessels as required," says Bjerga.
Supply boats use about four and a half days on a trip from Tananger to Ekofisk and back. Including the vessels that occasionally are in use there is on average one call per day.
