Before 1970

1875

The Continental Oil Company (Conoco) was founded in Ogden, Utah

1917

Phillips Petroleum was founded in Bartlesville, Oklahoma

1962

Phillips Petroleum applies for an oil and gas licence on what is to become the Norwegian Shelf

1965

The first licensing rounds on the Norwegian Shelf are announced

1968

Phillips Petroleum makes its first discovery on the Norwegian Shelf, block 7/11 Cod

1969

The Ekofisk discovery!


1970 - 1979

1970

Conoco is awarded its first production license on the Norwegian Shelf

1971

Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli formally opens production on Ekofisk from Gulftide

1973

The company’s office and base/quay facility in Tananger outside Stavanger is opened

1974

Conoco acquires a considerable interest
in the Statfjord field

1975

The first crude oil is transported through a pipeline to the Teesside terminal in the UK

1977

The gas terminal in Emden, Germany, is opened

1977

The blowout on Ekofisk 2/4 B (the Bravo blowout)

1979

The Eldfisk field enters production

1980 - 1989

The Alexander L. Kielland disaster

1984

Seabed subsidence is found on Ekofisk

1985

Conoco discovers the Heidrun field

1987

Water injection starts from the 2/4 K platform

1987

The Ekofisk Complex is jacked up six metres

1990 - 1999

1993

The Embla field enters production

1995

Heidrun starts production

1998

Ekofisk II. The Ekofisk 2/4 J platform starts up. The Ekofisk West, Edda, Albuskjell and Cod fields close down

2000 - 2009

2001

Conoco and Phillips Petroleum announce a merger between the two companies

2002

ConocoPhillips is established with headquarters in Houston – and a Norwegian head office in Tananger

2002

The first centre for integrated operations – a drilling centre on land – opens in Tananger

2006

The removal of Ekofisk I has begun – light structures on Edda are removed

2009

Norway celebrates 40 years since the Ekofisk discovery

2010 -

2011

Stortinget (Norwegian parliament) approves two major development projects, Ekofisk South and Eldfisk II

2012

The integrated energy company splits its activity into two independent companies, the upstream company ConocoPhillips and the downstream company Phillips 66

2013

The development project Ekofisk South is completed, with start-up from the Ekofisk 2/4 Z wellhead platform and the 2/4 VB seabed installation for water injection

2015

The Eldfisk II development project is completed with  the opening of the integrated platform Eldfisk 2//7 S at the Eldfisk Complex
