This week, a sail-away ceremony was held for the completed Tommeliten A process module at the Aker Solutions’ yard in Egersund. The milestone brings us one step closer to providing more gas to Europe in 2024.
“We are pleased to have reached this milestone, and we extend our thanks to everyone at Aker Solutions for all their efforts so far. The process module and associated equipment have been fabricated and delivered in a very short time period, without any major HSE incidents. This really is a great achievement, and we look forward to installing the module at Ekofisk in May,” said Glenn Hamrell, ConocoPhillips’ Tommeliten A Project Manager.
Tommeliten A is a new gas condensate field, located in the Greater Ekofisk Area in the North Sea. It is a subsea development project comprising of two subsea templates, which can accommodate up to 12 production wells. The field facilities will be tied back to the Ekofisk Complex, where the processing module will be installed. The new subsea templates are located approx. 25 kilometers southwest of the Ekofisk Complex.
Gas condensate to Europe
The resource potential for the Tommeliten A field is estimated to be in the range of 80-180 million barrels oil equivalent, mainly comprising gas condensate. The field development will contribute with new production in the Ekofisk area and further strengthen the Ekofisk legacy for the next decades.
“The Tommeliten A field will produce and deliver gas condensate from 2024, helping to meet Europe’s energy needs,” said Tor Inge Hansen, ConocoPhillips’ Manager of Capital Projects Europe & North Africa.
Total capital investments are estimated to be approx. 13 billion Norwegian kroner. Most contracts have been awarded to Norwegian businesses, and investments are estimated to create about 5,000 jobs.
ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS is the operator of the Tommeliten A Unit with a 28.1385 percent ownership interest, while PGNiG Upstream Norway AS (42.1978 %), TotalEnergies EP Norge AS (20.1430 %), Vår Energi AS (9.0907 %), ConocoPhillips (U.K.) Holdings Ltd (0.2109%), TotalEnergies UK Ltd (0.1510%) and ENI UK Ltd (0.0681%) are unit partners.
About Tommeliten A Field
Tommeliten A was discovered in 1977. It is a fractured chalk field containing gas condensate and volatile oil. The field consists of an Ekofisk Formation and a Tor Formation, similar to surrounding fields in the Greater Ekofisk Area. The field is a UK-Norway transboundary field as it extends from Norwegian Block 1/9 into UK Block 30/20. The Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) of Tommeliten A was approved by the Norwegian and UK authorities on 11 July 2022.
