The Eldfisk North project.

Ekofisk was Norway’s first commercial oil discovery in 1969, and the authorities have approved license extensions until 2048. With production starting as early as in 1971, this means a potential total lifetime of nearly 80 years, and considerable resources below the seabed have yet to be produced. This is why the company is continually pursuing new opportunities in managing the resources in the Greater Ekofisk Area.

The northern parts of the Eldfisk field still have residual oil in the subsurface, and the Eldfisk North project is being developed with three subsea templates and a production pipeline tied back to the Eldfisk Complex. From there, oil will be exported to the UK. Production is scheduled to start in the first half of 2024.

Autumn 2023 saw the start of production from a new gas and condensate field, Tommeliten A in the southwestern part of the Greater Ekofisk Area. This field is located 25 kilometers southwest of Ekofisk and has been developed with two subsea templates and a pipeline to transport gas and condensate to Ekofisk for separation. The Tor field was re-opened in 2020, following a redevelopment with two subsea templates tied back to the Ekofisk Complex.

ConocoPhillips also takes part in developing fields where we have ownership as a license partner. In the Alvheim area, we have actively participated in the development of Kobra East & Gekko (KEG), which commenced production in autumn 2023. Production on Breidablikk started around the same time, where ConocoPhillips has also contributed to the development of a new field. Other development opportunities are continuously considered in our license portfolio.

The removal of previously decommissioned installations in the Greater Ekofisk Area is also an important part of the company's project portfolio. Since 2004, we have removed 15 installations comprising 180,000 tons of steel, of which almost 98 percent have been recycled into other products such as steel rods.
