Greater Ekofisk Area
The Greater Ekofisk Area is located in the southern part of the North Sea, 300 kilometers southwest of Stavanger. In addition to the Ekofisk field the area consists of the producing fields Eldfisk and Embla, both of which are part of production license (PL) 018.
All three fields are operated by ConocoPhillips on behalf of the license co-venturers. Ekofisk production license is located in block 2/4 on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The water depth in the area is between 70 and 80 meters. ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS is the operator for the Greater Ekofisk Area (35.11 % ownership). Other license owners are Total E&P Norge AS (39.90 %), Vår Energi AS (12.39 % ), Equinor Energy AS (7.60 %) and Petoro AS (5.00 %).
The total number of manned and unmanned installations that have been in operation in the Greater Ekofisk Area is close to 30. The oldest one is from 1973, the newest one started operation in 2015. Several of the installations are now ”cold”, i.e. they are no longer in use - and many have been removed and disposed. At the same time the owners have invested in re-development - and the fields are prepared for the next 40 years.
